Why SaaS Development Might Be Smart For Your Business

Today, software as a service (SaaS) has emerged as a popular business model for developing web and mobile applications. Because of this, I’ve found that SaaS systems have grown particularly appealing to chief information officers (CIOs) and their IT departments.

What Is SaaS Development?

SaaS delivers software applications through the cloud. Instead of installing and maintaining software applications on your desktop, you simply use the cloud to access them, eliminating the need for expensive machines.

In SaaS development, a software developer or organization distributes software so that the product is hosted on the cloud at all times. For example, an independent software vendor (ISV) may hire a third-party cloud provider to host the application. Or, in the case of larger corporations, the cloud provider itself may also be the software supplier—for example, Google and Microsoft.

Why SaaS Product Development Matters

SaaS product development has impacted the information technology world greatly due to its remote connectivity and management. As the founder of a SaaS platform myself, I believe it’s the convenience and ease of use that are attracting more and more companies to SaaS with each passing day.

If you are exploring the idea of SaaS product development for your own company, it’s important to understand the differences it can make for you and your team.

The Cost Of Implementation

To cover the most basic concern first, the cost of implementation is relatively low for SaaS products. SaaS products stay on the cloud server, so there’s no cost of hardware installation. Without any hardware components like workstations, dedicated servers, network infrastructure, virtual private networks (VPNs), firewalls, backups, storage and disaster recovery plans, the cost of maintaining the system goes down.

This is why many startups prefer the SaaS business model. There are no initiation costs, and as businesses expand, they can keep paying for the services they use. This cloud service also reduces the total time spent on downtime and troubleshooting, while reducing the overall cost of ownership and financial risk.

Integration

SaaS is easy to set up on the cloud network and doesn’t require any further maintenance. The implementation process only requires registering and downloading an application or integrating a web browser extension. There is no further need to build infrastructure and then design the software. SaaS has easy integration options for all businesses, both old and new.

Security

Security is the biggest concern these days, and cloud developers are putting in efforts to secure all data in the cloud. By having good security practices, businesses can grow their customers’ faith in their company. Strong cryptographic cipher suites, encrypted storage, single sign-on (SSO), two-factor authentication (2FA) and other security methods are often used to protect SaaS services, which exceeds what most firms can build (or pay for) on their own.

Scalability

SaaS enables quick deployment, as well as easy provisioning and de-provisioning from a central location. New users can use their web browser to get the application running instead of waiting for hours or days for the onboarding process. The IT team also has control over the project management, update rollout and scalability of these SaaS products. The computational power and unlimited cloud storage allow a business to quickly scale.

Collaboration And Access

SaaS keeps itself updated with constant sync to the cloud memory. This makes it easier to collaborate with your team and work on the same file. For example, the Microsoft Office suite was already one of the most used applications for word processing, designing presentations and creating spreadsheets. The company also released its SaaS model, Office 365, which allows users to sync and work on their Microsoft Office files from any device, and the files can be shared with collaborators too.

Smooth Updates Rollout

SaaS applications are remotely located with the supplier, and the team keeps working on ways to make the customer experience better. Without having to download or install any application, it’s easier to update the user experience and add new features.

Reliability

As the cloud network keeps saving data automatically, information is saved across several servers, spread throughout different geographical locations. There are also backup servers available for emergencies. This makes SaaS reliable, and businesses developing SaaS products can ensure great customer service.

Let’s Wind It Up

SaaS product development has been a game changer over the last decade. By using a cloud-first strategy, CIOs are able to streamline their business operations while saving money and increasing productivity.

Today, it seems every big tech player is deploying SaaS. It offers the ability to customize, using a simple point-and-click approach. This significantly reduces the workload for organizations.

If you ask me, the best time to adopt SaaS development was 10 years ago, but the second-best time is today.
