Introverted? Here Are 13 Ways To Make Your Personal Brand Shine


A large part of the personal branding process relies on speaking with others, presenting new ideas to digital and in-person audiences and establishing connections. To a self-described introvert, these tasks can seem like big hurdles on the way to success. But there are ways for introverts to get their names out there and create strong relationships within their network.

Whether it’s becoming more active on LinkedIn or publishing articles on sites within their discipline, introverts have many opportunities to be involved in the business community while still leaving space to recharge with solo activities. Below, 13 Young Entrepreneur Council members share their keys to personal branding success as an introverted leader.

1. Build A Small Number Of Meaningful Relationships

The label “introvert” is often considered a crutch, but it is actually an extremely valuable attribute. To self-brand as a small business owner, I tap into my natural skill set as an introvert. You do not need to control a room to be an effective networker. Introverts are eloquent, thoughtful and fantastic listeners. 2. Highlight Your Qualifications On LinkedIn

Social media can be a tremendous asset for introverts. Keeping an updated profile on sites such as LinkedIn and joining industry group chats allows one to network without having to leave their computer. 3. Stay Authentic And Transparent

You do not need to put yourself out there as much if you really hold on to key relationships. The easiest way to maintain those relationships is to keep a high bar of authenticity in what you do. Do what you say you will do when you say you will do it. When you cannot deliver, let the stakeholder know early. 4. Slowly Expand Your Comfort Zone

People are always surprised to learn I am an introvert because I post videos on social media often. For me, it was all about mindset and baby steps. I started out with a few videos a year and no lives. Then, I did a few a month and a few lives a year. Now I do daily videos and lives more often. 5. Control Your Online Narrative

Personal branding is placing information, photos and articles for people to purposefully find instead of them finding old college pictures of you from 1995. 6. Focus On The Value You Bring

The key to personal branding for introverts is realizing that personal branding is about what we say and do and not about how we appear on the outside. As an introvert, you might focus too much on appearance. Instead, focus on understanding your value proposition. What do you have to offer? 7. Be Transparent About It

In your videos or other things that you do, say that you’re introverted. It’s okay to admit when something is not something you normally do, but you want to share information with your audience and get more comfortable with it. 8. Find The Right Channels To Connect With Others

I would like to suggest that, for introverted professionals, there are “introverted” channels of expertise distribution, such as blog posts, white papers and SEO, community posts on Reddit and other text-based materials. 9. Promote Your Best Qualities

Networking isn’t about being charismatic or the chatty person you want to have a drink with after work. Those aren’t negative traits, and they can be helpful in breaking the ice with other professionals, but that’s just the beginning. 10. Publish Articles To Share Information Widely

Those who don’t like to be in front of a camera or on a podcast have other ways to brand themselves. One way is to publish. They can volunteer to write columns for local papers or magazines based on their expertise. 11. Reframe Your Understanding Of Being Introverted

For personal branding, don’t be afraid to use your perceived weaknesses and turn them into strengths. For example, if you think being an introverted professional holds you back, you could come up with benefits or ways it helps you as a business owner instead. 12. Set Small Goals With Yourself

Reflect on your unique personality, skills and strengths. The development of a personal brand can be individualized based on the introvert’s limits.
