Here’s how to make 2022 your best year in business, no matter where you are right now.
Step into your new version
If nothing changes, nothing changes. The version of you that got this far requires an upgrade to access the next level of success. Think about the characteristics of the person who achieves the goals you’re about to achieve. What do they say, what do they think? Who do they hang around with? How do they act and what do they do, without fail, every single day?
Your past self steered you to where you are today, but a new version of you is going to take the reins from here. Become that new person. Step out of your old self and into your future and best version, beginning today.
Ignore the news
Headlines and doom scrolling cultivate nothing but fear. Fear of what’s outside, fear of the future, fear that keeps us shutting up shop and thinking small. Rather than scaremongering and speculation, start a media diet. Delete the news apps, unsubscribe from the updates and clear your cache. If it’s important, someone will tell you. If you need to know, the information will find its way into your consciousness.
Focusing on what’s in your control means letting go of what isn’t. Pop culture isn’t your concern, neither are the latest theories on health and travel. Get some perspective by signing out and staying out, for this year and forever.
Expand the great
Who are the people that bring out the best in you? The places that make you feel alive? The activities and practices that bring possibility and new ideas and spark your sense of curiosity? What are the habits and routines that are serving the best version of you? What do you do that is undoubtably good for you? Expand those things. Allow more of those great people, places and practices into your life.
Expand your production. Work out how you best serve the world and do more of that. More writing, more creating, more inspiring. Make showing up for your audience a part of your new world and discover the opportunity this brings. New knowledge, experiences and collaborations that leapfrog your business might be just around the corner.
Side projects are so last year. Chasing multiple income streams at the expense of one game-changing company is not what true greatness or wealth is made of. Instead, channel your focus, energy and attention into a single place and keep going until you see results. Pick your best horse and enter one race. You stand a far better chance at winning when you’re not divided and confused.
Diversifying once you have struck gold might make sense, but before then it’s a false economy. Tunnel vision and putting the work in are the tools to reach for. Shotgun, not scattergun. One big bucket not loads of small cups.
See allies, not competition
You have more in common with your so-called competition than you think. Perhaps 2022 is the year you join forces, acquire or become acquired. Perhaps 2022 is the year you silently wish your rivals well before ignoring them completely. Obsessing over what others are doing keeps you playing small. Operating on the basis that there isn’t enough to go around means you miss valid opportunities for expansion.
Some keep their friends close and their enemies closer. Some just don’t have enemies. Step out of any self-importance weighing you down and barrel forward with only your own game in mind.
You do you
In 2022, give yourself permission to put yourself first. Consider what you want, take back your time, and say no far more than you ordinarily would. Declining unexceptional invitations clears space for the magical unknown. Putting yourself first inspires others to do the same.
Ask the question, make the request, put yourself in the spotlight. Leave when you want, with no worries or guilt. Stop second-guessing what others think in 2021 and make your choices and opinions your priority. Set yourself up for greatness by looking after number one. Serve from a full tank, not an empty well.
I have a feeling that 2022 is going to be your year. Choose to agree with me. Decide that you will make it so. Close your eyes and nod your head. Say “yes” confidently to yourself. Feel the intention arrive as you welcome it in. Your new life might be unrecognisable from the old, but you’re ready for the change.
