The central government has given some relief to those struggling with the Corona crisis. The government has cut the Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) on oxygen concentrators imported for personal use. The government has reduced the IGST on oxygen concentrator to 12% from 28%. This reduced rate will be applicable till 30 June 2021.
CBIC gave information
The Central Board of Direct Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued a statement regarding the reduction in IGST. The statement said that IGST on oxygen concentrators imported for personal use has come down from 28% to 12%. This reduction in IGST rate will be valid till 30 June 2021. Earlier, the government had announced waiving of custom duty on import of medical grade oxygen, oxygen concentrator and related equipment.

Oxygen concentrator can be ordered as a gift
The central government on Friday approved the import of oxygen concentrator through post or e-commerce portal as a gift. The government has taken this decision due to increased demand for oxygen in the country due to Corona. According to the Ministry of Commerce, oxygen concentrators can be purchased as a gift by 31 July 2021.

How do oxygen concentrators work?
The air in our atmosphere contains 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen and 1% other gases. The oxygen concentrator filters only oxygen from the air and releases nitrogen back into the air. After this, the air that the victim gets contains 90-95% oxygen.
