Google has updated the official documentation, where it officially confirmed that it treats 308 redirects as 301.

Suggestions that Google handles these server response codes in the same way appeared three years ago, but there was no official confirmation of this.

Now in the updated documentation it saysthat “status codes 301 and 308 mean that the page has moved to a new location permanently.”

Google employee Gary and Ilsh also confirmed on Twitter that Google has combined 301 and 308 redirects.
