GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida head swimming and diving coach Anthony Nesty was named a finalist for the 2022 American Swimming Coaches Association George Haines Coach of the Year, the ASCA announced Thursday morning. Nesty is one of six finalists who coached athletes that won gold medals at the FINA World Championships in Budapest last June.

The award is annually given to the individual whose coaching effectiveness has contributed the most towards American swimming excellence at the World level.

Nesty coached multiple gold medalists in Budapest, including Caeleb Dressel, Bobby Finke, Kieran Smith and Volunteer Coach Katie Ledecky. The four combined for eight gold medals, the most golds coached by any finalist for the award this year.

The ASCA Coach of the Year has been awarded since 1961, and was awarded twice to former Florida coach Gregg Troy in 2010 and 2011.

The 2022 ASCA George Haines Coach of the Year winner will be revealed on September 8, 2022, at the Awards Banquet during the ASCA World Clinic at the Westgate Resort in Las Vegas.
