Yandex users received a tool to manage their data. It is displayed in your Yandex ID personal account.
With its help, users can request an archive with information that various Yandex services have accumulated about them, as well as delete their data from individual services. For example, you can erase the history of requests to Alice or information about the places visited.
The archive includes information from more than 50 Yandex services. It takes several days to prepare it. When everything is ready, a letter is sent to the mail, and the file with the archive appears in Yandex ID.
You can now delete data from Alice, Music, Maps, Mail, Disk, Zen, Translator, Weather, Messenger, Business and Station. All major Yandex services will be included in the list by the end of the year.
Most of the data is erased from servers within 24 hours. According to the law, some data needs to be stored for a certain time – Yandex stops processing it immediately after the request is received and deletes it as soon as the specified period expires. Data that is part of the service, such as edits and panoramas in Maps, cannot be completely deleted. They are depersonalized – Yandex erases information about who added them.
Deleting data is irreversible and cannot be undone. If you erase the data, some features of Yandex services will become unavailable. For example, Yandex.Music recommends new tracks based on the history of listening, likes and dislikes. Without this information, recommendations will be inaccurate.
Data management tool is part of Yandex ID, it is located in the “Account Management” section. To access the tool, you need to enter a confirmation code – this is an additional security measure. The code is sent to the number associated with the account.
