13 Simple But Effective Ways To Increase Sales

To continuously keep growing, businesses have to adopt strategies that fuel their growth. Taking a thorough look at how the business is operating, including what value is being created for current and potential customers, is an important step when scaling.

Though entrepreneurs know there are a multitude of ways to go about increasing the sales of their businesses, the challenge is determining what strategy will be easy to implement. To help, 13 Forbes Business Council members each share a recommendation that can be simply employed to increase a business’s sales.

1. Lean Into Your Niche

Ideally, you’ve built a specialized product or service that solves a problem or meets a demand for a specific group of people. If not, head back to the drawing board to reestablish exactly how your brand provides something different from other brands. Consider revamping your product to better appeal to your base of consistent buyers by collecting feedback and becoming your niche’s top brand. – Chris Gerlach, Synergy Life Science

2. Create Long-Term Value And Relationships

Increase sales through long-term value creation and deep emotional relationship building in every transaction. Offer services beyond what is just required in a way that inspires a customer to stay in your brand experience. Thinking of your customer experience in terms of pre, during and post creates an opportunity for seamless upsell and downsell offerings. Always add value. – Kyle Hermans, Be Courageous

3. Offer More Support For Salespeople

Put the most wood behind the sharpest arrows. This translates to leveraging your best salespeople, adding more support for them to cover your best clients even better. You are already doing something right in both categories, so keep doing it. – Beth O’Brien, CoreVest Finance

4. Focus On Areas Needing Improvement

Before looking to spend more to generate increased leads or traffic, review the data to see if there are any areas where you can improve to increase conversion rate. This way you’ll be able to make the most out of the traffic you’re already getting, maximizing your marketing budget and increasing sales without having to spend more. – Dean Currall, Castle International Ltd.

5. Cross-Sell Complementary Products

You don’t want a leaky bucket, so focus on retention and then acquisition. One way to increase your sales from existing clients is to cross-sell complementary products or services that solve a need not fulfilled by the original purchase. – Ibrahim Ibrahim, Override

6. Use Social Media

Social media has become such a strong resource for lead generation. This gives you access to such a large audience quickly and relatively affordably. Make connections through your online platform. It’s more than just posting; be sure to comment on other’s posts, like and engage with potential clients. – Mark E Cohenno, National EMS Institute Inc

7. Position Yourself As A Thought Leader

Make sure every conversation is framed properly. If you chase someone, the natural thing for them to do is run. So whether you do sales calls yourself or have a team that does the sales calls, make sure that you have a system set up to frame each conversation with you as the prize. You can do this with a book you’ve written, testimonials from happy customers and social proof media you’ve appeared on. – Rob Kosberg, Best Seller Publishing

8. Tap Into Your Network

Work your book. Yes, you’ve heard it a thousand times, but it’s almost always the simplest sounding things that work best. The catch is that this requires consistency and discipline. Check in with the people who have already supported you and don’t be afraid to ask for referrals—hopefully after some genuine conversation! If you’ve been good to them, then why wouldn’t they want to help you? – Chris Turcotte, Centum Financial Group

9. Start A Referral Program

Launch a customer referral program to get your most loyal customers to become your champions. It’s preferable if you can build it without increasing your expenses. It’s easy to offer money per referral (in the style of Uber or Lyft), but it’s more valuable to offer incentives like badges, ranking and authority like Reddit, Waze and many other companies that have saved millions of dollars. The concept is simple, but executing on it well is very hard. – Aviv Shalgi, Solar Simplified

10. Offer Valuable Limited Time Offers

Create scarcity by customizing limited time offers that aren’t just about pricing but are also about value. Think of offers like “the next 100 customers also get a 30-minute session with our expert” or “for the next 24 hours we can offer access to this complementary solution for free.” Make sure your scarcity tactic makes sense and doesn’t appear inauthentic. Everyone likes a deal. – Gil Eyal, Stardust Ventures

11. Initiate Contact With Previous Customers

One simple but effective way to increase sales for many different types of businesses is to review past transactions by customers at the same time the previous year. Have they made that same purchase again? If not, reach out and remind the customer of what they purchased last year and ask if they would like to buy it again. – Erin Weaver, Pennington Gray

12. Make Sure Your Team Has The Necessary Knowledge

Ensure that your team knows everything you offer and can talk about all your offerings effortlessly. The easier it is for your sales leads to make connections between your consumers’ needs and your full range of services, the better the consumers’ experience with your business. Train your sales team to listen and look for connections between not just what is needed, but also what adds value. – Christopher White, Eques, Inc.

13. Elevate Your Customer Experience To Create Raving Fans

There is no better sales growth strategy than elevating your customer service to a level where your clients have no choice but to speak about you to other people. Creating raving fans for your business can be achieved by over-delivering or delivering customer service at a level that most companies see as too much trouble. Do what nobody else is doing to see returns that nobody else is receiving. – Shaz Memon, Digimax Dental
